Universal Tv Remote ("the app," "we," "us") is a Smart TV remote-control app available on the App Store and Google Play. This policy explains what the app touches on each platform, what stays on your device and your network, and how to reach the responsible developer for each store.

Developer & publisher details

Universal Tv Remote is published under two separate developer accounts, one per store. Both are listed here as required by App Store and Google Play policy.

How the app works

Universal Tv Remote lets you control Smart TVs on your own WiFi network. Discovery, pairing, and all remote-control commands (touchpad, volume, power, input, and launcher) are exchanged directly between your phone and your TV on your local network. These communications do not pass through or get stored on any server we operate.

Local network access

  • When we ask for it: On first app launch, immediately before the TV discovery scan starts.
  • What we tell you: The app needs to see devices on your WiFi network to find your TV. This only works on your home network and nothing leaves it.
  • If you say no: TV discovery is skipped and you can still set up a TV manually by entering its IP address.

Microphone

  • When we ask for it: The first time you tap the voice-search icon.
  • What we tell you: Microphone access is used only for that one voice search and is not stored.
  • If you say no: Voice search stays off and the text search field remains available instead, with no repeated prompts.

Notifications

  • When we ask for it: Only after you turn on the "Keep remote ready in background" toggle.
  • What we tell you: You'll be notified only if your TV connection needs your attention. Nothing else is sent.
  • If you say no: No alerts are sent when the background connection drops, and a note reminds you to check the app before your next session.

Third-party services

Universal Tv Remote does not require an account and does not send your TV or control data anywhere. To keep the app stable and understand aggregate usage, we use a small set of third-party services:

  • Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google) — anonymized usage patterns and crash diagnostics
  • App Store / Google Play billing — processes all purchases (weekly, monthly, yearly, lifetime, or one-time unlock); we never see your payment details

Each provider operates under its own privacy policy and may process device identifiers or diagnostic data as described there. None of them receives the contents of your local network discovery or remote-control activity.

What we do & don't hold

  • Held (aggregate only): De-identified usage analytics and crash reports collected by the third parties above.
  • Not held: Your TV's name, IP address, paired TVs, search text, voice audio, or anything exchanged over your local network.
  • On your device: Your paired TVs, the keep-ready background setting, purchase status, and app preferences.

Data retention

Because remote-control and discovery data never leave your local network, there is nothing for us to retain there. Aggregate analytics and crash data collected by the providers above are retained according to each provider's own policy, typically in de-identified or aggregated form.

Your rights

Depending on your region, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete any account-level data held by us or by the third-party services above, and to opt out of analytics from your device's privacy settings. Since we hold no content from your local network, most requests are resolved simply by pointing you to on-device Permissions controls.

Children's privacy

Universal Tv Remote is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children beyond the on-device, non-transmitted processing described above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves across platforms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
